At the top of the garden a steep border is being planted with a mix of perennials and grasses which will catch the evening light and offer contuinity with the far-reaching country views. A new cleft chestnut post fence has been installed to provide a handrail next to a path down to lower areas of the garden and steeply sloping areas either side have been covered with wildflower meadow turf pegged into place. The turf's thick roots provide a barrier to weed regrowth. The path then enters a new woodland area created with 22 multistem birch trees that that offers a different garden envirnment that supports spring bulbs and supresses weeds through shade. Some 12,000 bulbs are being planted including snowdrops, Scilla and Chionodoxa.
