The Brief
Here we were asked to transform the blank canvas of lawn attached to a modern home into an attractive but practical garden with an outdoor seating area from which the client could enjoy watching their prized Japanese koi fish. In addition the garden needed to accommodate a vegetable patch, a small lawn and ornamental borders.
The Solution
A strong, snaking design for this garden in Dorset that distracts the eye from enclosing perimeter fences, includes a deep circular koi pond, overlapping circular deck area and adjacent water planting with waterfall. A central lawn area is surrounded by perennial planting backed on one side by pleached fruit trees, which helps conceal the vegetable patch. Planting is a traditional mix of roses, shrubs and perennials in whites, blues, pinks and reds.
